More “Begging for $$$” this week on this, my second and final show of the fall pledge drive. THANKS to all who called in with or emailed pledges.

The magnificent one, Ron Thums, assisted with the on-air activities. Most of you know Ron as the regal former co-host of “RADIO RUMPUS ROOM”, one of the BEST RADIO SHOWS EVER on planet earth or anywhere else in this galaxy.

Not much new music on this weeks show due to all the chatter, but we did manage to play new ones from Justin Townes Earle, Horace Trahan, and April Smith & The Great Picture Show.

Next Wednesday, October 13, I’ll be doing double duty. I’ll be sitting for Harold Tremblay on Houseparty, so it’ll be a major overdose of me…from 2:00-6:00. Better keep the kids away from the radio that day.

We’ll have an interview with Warner Hodges, the cool dude who plays the howling guitar with Jason & The Scorchers.

Later, Teague Alexy, from the Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank, will be paying a visit, chatting, and performing in-studio. I dig this guy’s music and think you will, too.

Click on the “Listen Now” button above for a journey to the list of songs we played and a link to listen to the show via the archives.

It was a crazy kind of night….in a cloud of ganja smoke…in the ol’ Echo Chamber. OK…OK, so there wasn’t really any ganja smoke in the studio (too bad), just plenty of herb-inspired reggae and dub, with some great soundbytes from “Reefer Madness”. Dr. StrangeDub and Baby Swiss relaxed and kicked back and presented the annual Echo Chamber “Free the Marijuana” special. The show was part of KFAI-FM’s biannual pledge drive…and was in support of Proposition 19 in California. Legalize it!

pledge drive #2 – lets admit it – the money i raised – big FAT goose egg $0.00 – it sucked.
except that Larry and Angie were there – and Georgia, and others
so at least we had each other….. but the community – left us a void. I won’t sugar coat this people – it sucked

For our second half of the fall Pledge Drive, we have an international show to celebrate.

Psychologist Jeanne Parr Lemkau joins us via telephone to talk about her memoir Lost and Found in Cuba: A Tale of Midlife Rebellion, the story of how she learned about herself as well as new templates for health care.

Also on this week’s show is Somalian novelist Nuruddin Farah. Nuruddin Farah is the author of many works, among them Knots, Links, and Maps, the first book of Farah’s second trilogy, Blood in the Sun (on the acclaimed, three-volume Variations on the Theme of an African Dictatorship). Joining Nuruddin Farah will be Charles Sugnet, Morse-Alumni Distinguished Teaching Professor of English at the University of Minnesota, and also co-host of KFAI’s African Rhythms, airing Thursdays noon to 2:00.

Things happen so fast during pledge drive that it’s hard to keep track of the songs PLUS I only play partial tune bits anyway. So no play list this week. Thanks for your support!
