What a fun “Christmas In Dub” special inna Echo Chamber. Starting off with 3 new holiday songs from Kaysha Lee, Michelle Gordon, and the Fort Knox All Stars (with a dubwise remix of “Christmas Time Is Here” Peanuts Christmas track). Of course we mined the reggae Christmas archives, and added more clubby remixes for plenty of cheer. Finally we debuted the new “Age of Golden Dub/Golden Age Dub” single from Eating Betty and Nuphlo. Quite a merry time indeed!
Tonight’s program features Nelly Trocme Hewett, daughter of a Huguenot pastor during World War II. Pastor Andre Trocme opposed war and Hitler’s brutal genocide. Andre Trocme was a brillant writer with quick wit and humor. His Christmas stories appeared to be for children, at first glance, but were equally important for adults.
You will hear the stories first in English, and then in French, read by his daughter, Nelly. The program will also contain many French Christmas carols.
This week on Write on Radio, we talk with Lan Samantha Chang, author of the book All Is Forgotten, Nothing Is Lost, a novel tracing the lives of three poets and their teacher in a creative writing program somewhere in the midwest. Lan Samantha Chang is also the author of Hunger and Inheritance, and is the director of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop.
Also this week, we’ll celebrate the holiday season and winter solstice with music and readings from Minnesota authors.
Today’s show was a Christmas present going out to my performing friends who make the Twin Cities their home. Make it your New Year’s resolution to get out and support live music. My Christmas wish for all of us: Peace On Earth!
