Tuesday, January 3rd, Sasha Suarez joins co-hosts Charlotte Sullivan, Ian Graham Leask, and Lynette Reini-Grandell to look back at 2011 and prognosticate what 2012 will bring for writers. Sasha Suarez is a writer and student at the University of Minnesota-Morris who has participated for several years in the Loft’s Equilibrium program. Charlotte Sullivan is Write on Radio’s specialist in children’s literature. Ian Graham Leask is a small press publisher who will be leaving Scarletta Press this year to work with Tumblehome Learning of Boston. Lynette Reini-Grandell is a notorious procrastinator who hopes to do better this year.

In the second half of the show, Joni Cole calls in to talk with us about her newest collection of essays, Another Bad-Dog Book: Tales of Life, Love, and Neurotic Human Behavior. Publisher’s Weekly said of it, by the end of this friendly, honest book, the reader will feel much affection for Cole, her little brood, and her bad dog.”

Had a guest co-host today. A young man who won my show in an auction. Michael Kimball is a high school student and musician in town and wanted a chance to learn how radio affects live music.

New & old favorites to celebrate the new year!

I spun the Monks and ’60s to present-day garage and garage-punk music as part of KFAI Rocks a week-long event in honor of Gary Burger of the Monks performing 331 Club this Friday. Joe Hastings (The Sex Rays, Hastings 3000) who was a member of the F* Knights when Gary Burger recorded one of their records, joined me spinning Burger/The Monks and favorite early garage and blues songs of the mid-60s.

Step into the garage with Liberty Finch and DJ Izzy, as they pay homage to Gary Burger of the Monks, and welcome him to Minneapolis for a gig with The Spectors, The Conquerors and The Floorshakers this Friday, Jan 6, at teh 331 Club—presented by Jackson Buck and Freewheelin’ First Fridays.

As part of the celebration, KFAI programmers are banding together in audio solidarity! KFAI Rocks is a week-long celebration of garage, punk and rock ‘n roll. Hear best picks on the Pop Shop, Bob Street, Spin with Cyn, Dart Gun Radio, Freewheelin’, In Your Ear, Voice Cried Softly, Fubar Omniverse, Radio Antilles, the Minnesota Sound and True Brit. AND, tune in for special programming on Friday Jan 6, from 2-6pm, as guest DJs interrupt Louisiana Rhythms and the Sugar Shop for even more garage cuts!
