10/6 in a nutshell…
The 4(+3)-in-a-row, once again incorporating the thematically consistent GotchaSKAvered (British sci-fi telly theme Echo 4-2 this month) is a set of tunes we’ll collectively call Buggin’ at TVs, after a lyric in the Judge Dread song One-Eyed Lodger. The TV topic extends out beyond GotchaSKAvered to include a Selecter tune from the album (Celebrate the Bullet) with a prominent TV gracing the cover. The Voov’s playlist touched on food (Mangos, Sarada Shabadaba), excercise (Stop and Go Mambo, Kentish Town Waltz), geography (International Jet Set, Melody of Spain) and, in a DJ-backhanded way, the passing of Steve Jobs (the Ringo in Shiina Ringo’s Ringo no Uta_ and in her name_ is an apple or apples). In the Ooh (the Opening Oldies Hour), Derrick Naomi help kick off the whole show wishing they too were apples. Also, look for a bumper crop of bumpers to close out the hour. Bump!
