Nicholas David paid another visit as guest DJ to Freewheelin' today.  Always fun to share the airwaves with him….and as an added bonus, most of the groovy tunes were provide by The Feelin', with a few thrown in by me.  We're already scheming to do this more often.

Starting off today's program with a tribute set to Leonard Cohen — then kept it going with a full blown tribute to Bob Dylan's work — as interpreted by others.  In addition to that there is a Standing Rock editorial and a couple relevant songs from John Trudell and Buffy Ste-Marie mixed in to some gospel including The Sounds of Blackness.  At the end of the program I also leave the US for a bit of foreign flavor to wrap it all up.  Thanks for your calls today — it made me feel even more grateful for Fresh Air and the opportunity to share some of my visions.

A very special night in the Echo Chamber as we presented our annual ALL-JAMAICAN special we call “One Fi Robert” dedicated to my late father-in-law. The night was made extra special as we had as a guest our long-time friend, the dub poet Ras Takura in the house from Jamaica! Finally, after a dozen years or so, we finally got Ras Takura to our fair city of Minneapolis — and he has made himself busy, performing live and on KFAI! The “One Fi Robert” special this year included great JA music from The Congos, Winston Jarrett & the Righteous Flames, The Heptones, Pablo Moses, Jah9, Ras Takura, Protoje, Augustus Pablo, King Tubby, The Upsetters, The Observers, The Aggrovators, U-Roy, Bob Marley & the Wailers, Lee Perry, The Skatalites, Roots Radics, Scientist, Big Youth, Johnny Osbourne, Oku Onuora, Bushman, Michael Rose, Sly & Robbie, Jimmy Cliff, Burning Spear, Prince Far I, Dub Syndicate, Niney the Observer, Sound Dimension, Damian Marley & NAS, The Supersonics, Dennis Alcapone, Sister Nancy, Techniques All Stars, The Eagles, Errol Thompson, Joe Gibbs & the Professionals, Alexander Henry, Sound Dimension, Third World All Stars, Tommy McCook, Ossie Hibbert, Lloyd Charmers & the Hippy Boys, Cecil Lloyd & his Orchestra, Delroy Wilson, I-Roy, Prince Buster, Jackie Edwards, and Leslie Butler. Hope Robert enjoyed it….and hope you do too!
