Episode #474:  Tonight we meet a Love Goddess, take a Swingin’ Fling, enjoy a Hot Fudge Sundae, enter the Tension Zone and visit the Sugar Shack all in the course of 90 minutes.

Hey that’s a lot of action for an hour and a half!  Plus, Harry Breuer ditches his vibra-thing and picks up  the patch cords, knobs and knife switches of a Moog Synthesizer.  Plus we hear the Power Sleeze of Ronnie Laws, the weird time signatures  of Emil Richards, and the surprising use of some strange vocalese by the usually staid latin guitarist Charlie Byrd.

BACK TO SCHOOL THURSDAY! 5 NEW TEACHERS!! With Tonia Hughes, Faith Udeh, Darnell Davis, Robert Robinson and Harold Torrence! Plus other local favorites! Lots of great music for the kingdom!

Followup from Salif Keita's return to the Twin Cities – and another overview of Malian music. Including the music of Oumou Sangare, Sekouba Bambino, & The Super Rail Band.  Then the local brass band 45's from Secret Stash Records by The Derobe Brass Band and Black Market Brass, followed by a nod to Tony Allen for his recent visit to the Cabooze with the Chicago AfroBeat Project.

Tonight the dub doctors hung out at the Dub Club Tiki Bar for the annual Echo Beach end of summer special. A bit different kind of Echo Chamber — as we actually played some rock ‘n roll: that twangy, instrumental surf rock one expects to find at all great tiki bars. Then, once the martinis were well shaken, we put on some cool old school soul and R&B, and some really chill remix of Buddy Holly. We were really cookin’ now, and the Tiki Bar lounge was heavy with kali smoke…so we cooled things down with a variety of lounge sounds, world sounds, weird electronica, electro swing, and more swanky jazz. Among those on our crazy list of artists were: The Ventures, Dick Dale & Del-Tones, The Divine Sham, Panchasila, Bombay Monkey, Freddie Fresh, Buddy Holly/Jacques Renault, Omars Attacks/TurntableTerrorist, Propellerheads (ft. Shirley Bassey), 11 Acorn Lane, Thomas Blondet, All India Radio, Seven Dub, Little Dragon, The Specials, Towa Tei, Ondatropica, Eric Blowtorch & his Super Powers, Ska Cubano, John Taaroa & his Hawaiian Guitars, of course Martha & the Muffins, and many more…
