MinneCulture | Minneapolis’ first Poet Laureate reflects on the future of her work

Today is the last day of American Indian Month in Minnesota. To celebrate, we are sharing this conversation with Indigenous poet Heid Erdrich. Erdrich is Minneapolis’ first poet laureate for the year 2024. She is Ojibwe, an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain band.

As a literary, visual, and collaborative artist, Erdrich has curated a myriad of exhibitions, received fellowships and awards, and taught at Universities and in communities locally and around the country. She is the author of numerous poetry collections and a two-time Minnesota Book Award winner.

KFAI’s Dixie Treichel spoke with Erdrich about her upcoming year of work. Photo by Angela Erdrich.
