Malamanya with Alma Andina and DJ Radio Pocho – at the Cedar

Friday, December 6, 2013 - 8:00pm

KFAI proudly sponsors Malamanya at the Cedar Cultural Center on Friday, December 6, at 8:00 pm.

Taking the chill out of a December evening with the sheer warmth and vitality of their music-making, Malamanya will have you up on your feet and moving to the music all night long, with a repertoire that samples broadly across Afro-Caribbean traditions.

Malamanya is a Minneapolis-based six-piece band that celebrates the traditional rhythms and melodies of Cuban son, salsa, samba, and the country music of Central and Latin America. The group's acoustic-driven dance rhythms draw on the organic form of simpler times; their compositions and onstage energy reflect the communal, complex, and celebratory spirit that runs through these musical forms. Convivial and contagious, they bring "el sabor" of times past into the present.

Alma Andina opens the evening, playing Andean and Latin American music. KFAI’s own DJ Radio Pocho will keep the music coming before and between sets.
