Ready to blow your mind?!  We have a KFAI digital library where you can access new music FOR FREE.     Here you can see what items have come in.

But I need your help!  We need help organizing it.  Getting records in the right genres, correct titles etc..  Downloading the records takes so much time alone, often I don’t have a chance to sort albums into their genres, or sometimes a promoter says a record is one thing, and it’s actually another.  We need people correcting the download titles and giving an artist who has several albums a single folder!

Thank you to Connor for all the work you have done so far.

If you’d like to be like Connor, make sure you connect with Mason.  We need to make sure that this document gets edited so it correctly reflects the correct genres this album and or artists might be located and correct titles since we’d like to use this document as the way we can find these artists.

Also, if you look at that link above (*and this one)  Community Digital Radio Files & interview requests      If you look to the bottom of the document, there are different tabs:  lists of bands coming to town, and bands looking for interviews etc.  A heads up, we don’t have access to everything, especially bigger bands, but more often than you’d think we can get you into a show (so long as there’s a promoter working that record currently).  You can feel free to email me:  music@kfai.org   and if it’s urgent  abigailallan@gmail.com

This is a volunteer position, so if you don’t hear back from me right away it just means it’s a very busy week in the teaching world.

New records added, many records who need to be sorted, over 3 months worth now so please give it a gander.  Also, It’s a great way to find new music for your show!  I believe Mason can show you were to access these records and not only find new music, but help us sort some new stuff.  There are also repeats, records and singles that need to be relabeled, and perhaps organized by artists.  Join the music library team and do the digital dance.

NEW digital MUSIC, Bands on Tour, and MORE

Good afternoon KFAI Community!

It is your friendly neighborhood music director here.

 

I bet you are wondering what records have come in digitally lately….   All 3310 files as of today.   Not only are you looking to check these tsunami of new music out for your show (see Mason if you’d like to access the digital library)  but I bet you are wondering “How can I help?”

I’m looking for people to help organize the digital library!!!

  •  There are bands that just have the name of the song and not the band on them
  • Whole albums listed as singles
  • Extra copies because it got downloaded twice.  So right now we have 2 copies of Alfredo Rodriguez – Pedrito Marti_mp3 & WAV files.  One pair is in the Jan 4th folder, and then there’s another pair in the Feb 15th folder!  Oh no. We just need a copy of the wav and mp3 file in the Jazz folder.
  • Records need to go to their ‘forever home’ genre folders.  Maybe they need to be in 2 different genre folders…..
  • Some albums need to be in different genres
  • Most albums need to be put in a genre period
  • …. and so much more.

You can see the albums / music we have currently at this google doc.  Both a page for new music and a 2nd tab that lets you know bands that are coming to town or looking for interviews.  1 request per person, per week please.

You can comment on this page and that’s a good way to know who wants what.

Notes from the Music Director – 2/11/19

Please see Mason and Crystal for more information and for the final word on how these will be organized.
1.  You can check out these and copy these new releases on your own time.  DO NOT SHARE WITH OTHERS!!!!  if you do so, we will lose the ability to get new albums and it hurts the band you think is so great it’s worth sharing.
2.  We need volunteers to do the following
•  Unzipping files
•  Sorting albums from the week they came in into the genre they belong in
•  Re-titling and folder organization based on bands:
-Folders just for the bands  (so all those singles and albums can just be found under that artist)
—>Inner folders that are titled “Band – album or single” per album or single
 We need to be sure that things aren’t labeled “01.band” or by the album, or replacing albums because band A put out 2 releases, and neither have an album attached.
• Organize these titles into the correct genre 
–  There will be Major genres, and then all those funky sub-genres can live inside if need be.
–  Correct genre titles:  i.e. *What does “urban mean?? – make this useful.  The few that I have put into buckets are based on the label’s suggestions but perhaps it’s something else?  Perhaps it goes into more than 1 genre?  Perhaps it just got put into the wrong folder during the random transport of data and I need someone to fix it. (*Update the xlsx file and send it back to me)

•  Duplicates – merge or replace (but be sure that they are actually the same album or single before doing so)
Sometimes things get downloaded twice.  Sometimes the file doesn’t download all together.  Just keep it clean folks
