Carla Hagen, who grew up on the Canadian border, moved to Mexico City when she was 20 and spent most of the next five years there. It changed her life, rendering her fluent in Spanish and a lover of Latin food, music and culture. After a stay in Texas, where she collected Mexican border corridos and learned to dance cumbia, she returned to Minnesota. There, in 1984, while doing her show, Vientos del Pueblo, on KFAI then located in the attic of the Walker Church in Minneapolis, Carla met Eve MacLeish, who arrived with an armful of vinyl fresh from Brazil. It was love at first sight. They formed a radio duet, called it Con Canto, Con Ritmo and continued until 1990, when Eve moved with her husband, Tito, and son, Silvio, to Venezuela. Then, in February 2006 Carla and Eve inaugurated their new show, Corazon Latino, which incorporates their love of and expertise in dozens of genres from all over the Latin World, from Angola to Brazil; from the Canary Islands to the Texas border. When not on the air, Carla writes, practices criminal law, travels as much as possible and lives with her husband LeRoy in St. Paul.
