It’s a spring pledge drive edition of the Pop Shop, and it’s also 1966—arguably the best year in music. From Dylan’s “Blonde on Blonde,” to The Beach Boys’ “Pet Sounds,” 1966 was a phenomenal year in music. Tonight we spin cuts by Love, the Turtles, the Yardbirds and the Creation. Plus DJ Izzy’s “Super Weirdo” set featuring 13th Floor Elevators, Capt Beefheart, the Mothers of Invention and “word jazz” by Ken Nordeen.

Liberty Finch and DJ Izzy welcome Monkeeologist Andrew Sandoval to the Pop Shop for a conversation about Davy Jones, the Monkees, and all things pop.

Andrew is the master producer responsible for the Grammy-nominated Rhino Entertainment project, “Where the Action is! Los Angeles Nuggets 1965-1968”, and author of “The Monkees: the day-to-day story of the ’60s TV pop sensation.” Mojo magazine calls Andrew’s book “essential reading,” and “the only Monkees book you need.”

In addition to his work on Monkees’ reissues, he’s produced special releases for The Beach Boys, The Bee Gees, Elvis Costello, Big Star, The Cyrkle, The Left Banke, Love, Pretty Things, and the Kinks, to name a just a few.

Andrew hosts a weekly internet radio show and podcast called Come to the Sunshine on Luxuria Music, which features ‘60s pop hits, rarities, alternative mixes and other delights.
