The Art of Spoken Word
e.g. bailey and Shá Cage
Tehuti will showcase spoken word, and spoken word-related, recordings throughout history, from different artistic movements such as the Beat Generation and the Black Arts Movement to today. It will also include recordings from different cultures, translated and untranslated. In addition, it will include the works of such well known spoken word artists such as the Last Poets, Gil Scott Heron, Saul Williams, Carl Hancock Rux, Jessica Care Moore, Tracie Morris, 2Tongues, among others and include the works of such poets as Langston Hughes, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Nikki Giovanni, Sonia Sanchez, and others, recorded with and without music. But it would not just be limited popular artist but will include artists from around the country and the Twin Cities area, such as Arkology, Edupoetic Enterbrainment, J. Otis Powell!, Truthmaze, Divine Words, Ancestor Energy, Bao Phi, and many many other incredible poets in this area. It will also feature unreleased work from lesser known and emerging artists from the many open mics and performances that happen in the area.
Though the primary focus will be spoken word and poetry recordings, it would not be limited to that. The program will also feature excerpts of speeches and excerpts of discussions with writers. Also, it will occasionally feature interviews with spoken word guest artists that are performing in town.
