Join host Larry Englund every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon for "Rhythm and Grooves". He'll play old and new releases and recent reissues as he explores classic and contemporary jazz, featuring artists like Cannonball Adderley, Joshua Redman, Irv Williams, Art Blakey, John Coltrane, Nicolas Payton, How Birds Work, Happy Apple, Jack McDuff, Duke Ellington, Joe Lovano, Karryn Allyson, and others, including both the famous and the overlooked.

In the past few years, Larry has interviewed resident artists such as Irv Williams, Connie Evingson, Jim Marentic, George Avaloz, Christine Rosholt, JelloSlave, The Fantastic Merlins, james Buckley, Electropolis, Happy Apple, Charmin Michelle & Joel Shapira, Clay Moore, Triplicate, Laura Caviani, Adam Meckler, Steve Kenny, Cory Wong, and Jana Nyberg. He's also interviewed visiting artists such as Allen Toussaint, Esperanza Spalding, Lenny White, David Sanborn, George Duke, Lynne Arriale, Melvin Sparks, Rick Germanson, and Chris McNulty & Paul Bollenbeck. In 2008, Larry broadcast a series of four monthly shows from the The Artist's Quarter You can expect an annual Mardis Gras Show and other specials, and the occasional extended segment featuring a particular artist.

It was Spring Pledge Drive. Thanks to Todd, Mary Ellen, and Don for their support of Rhythm and Grooves, as well as everyone who pledged to the station during this drive. Today I interviewed Matt Slocum, and played music from Joey DeFrancesco, Jana Nyberg, Peter Kogan, Pippi Ardennia, Jeremy Walker, Tito Puente, and Roberta Gambarini. With this coming Tuesday being Mardis Gras, or Fat Tuesday, I devoted the show to the music of New Orleans’ musicians, from Dr. John, to Ellis Marsalis, Nicholas Peyton, Louis Armstrong, John Boutte, Alvin “Red” Tyler, Evan Christopher, and more. The 45 of the week was actually a flex-disk: Comin’ Home, by the Sam Rivers Quartet.

It was a day full of trumpets as Twin Cities Trumpeter/Composer Adam Meckler stopped by to talk about the Adam Meckler Orchestra, his 18 piece band now appearing at the Amsterdam on the last Tuesday of each month. Later on, Trumpeter Terrence Blanchard called in to talk about his new album, Magnetic, and his upcoming appearance at the Dakota Jazz Club.
