Join host Larry Englund every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon for "Rhythm and Grooves". He'll play old and new releases and recent reissues as he explores classic and contemporary jazz, featuring artists like Cannonball Adderley, Joshua Redman, Irv Williams, Art Blakey, John Coltrane, Nicolas Payton, How Birds Work, Happy Apple, Jack McDuff, Duke Ellington, Joe Lovano, Karryn Allyson, and others, including both the famous and the overlooked.

In the past few years, Larry has interviewed resident artists such as Irv Williams, Connie Evingson, Jim Marentic, George Avaloz, Christine Rosholt, JelloSlave, The Fantastic Merlins, james Buckley, Electropolis, Kellly Rossom, Happy Apple, Charmin Michelle & Joel Shapira, Clay Moore, Triplicate, Laura Caviani, and Chill 7. He's also interviewed visiting artists such as Allen Toussaint, Esperanza Spalding, Lenny White, Melvin Sparks, Rick Germanson, and Chris McNulty & Paul Bollenbeck. In 2008, Larry broadcast a series of four monthly shows from the The Artist's Quarter You can expect an annual Mardis Gras Show and other specials, and the occasional extended segment featuring a particular artist.

Also played tunes by Shirley Scott, Beat Funktion, Ian Dogole, Cannonball Adderley, Ed Berger, The Session, and Mel Torme & the Mel-Tones. The 45 of the week was New Fhumba, by Miles Davis, on Columbia.

A few new tunes, and a mix of older and newer material, including tracks from Roy Haynes, James Carter Organ Trio, Grant Green, Steve Turre, Michael O’Brien, James Marentic, Nancy King, and David Sanchez, Stefon Harris, and Christian Scott. New music from Mark Gross, Thisbe Vos, and Sasha’s Bloc. 45 of the week was The Mooche, by Duke Ellington, from 1953.

Maud Hixson called in to talk about her new CD – Don’t Let A Good Thing Get Away – and her CD release party at the Dakota. Other tunes included music by Charles Earland, Jesse McBride, Miles Davis, Jay D’Amico Quintet, Pete Escovedo, Monk, Ian Dogole, and Lee Morgan. The 45 of the week was Fly Me To the Moon, by Wes Montgomery.

A mixed bag of a day, with some music about/from Paris, a few vinyl cuts (for Record Store Day), and a couple of new releases. Music by Jack McDuff, Dexter Gordon, Count Basie, Freddie Hubbard,and Cyrus Chestnut. New music from Thesbe Vos, The Zacc Harris Group, Melton Mustafa, and a new release of a 1982 performance by Tommy Flanagqan and Jaki Byard.
