This the second and last program within KFAI’s Spring Pledge Drive. This Encuentro, like the first Pledge Drive program, consists of songs that always incite a response, a comment a phone call, songs that have touched hearts and imaginations. Now is the time to support radio by, from and for the community: online or by phone, 612)375-9030
True to the various meanings of the word “Encuentro”, this program present music from just about everywhere, except Latin America; music that, even though it comes from other traditions and other latitudes, I feel that it is driven by the same heart and spirit of the Latin American folk music usually presented on Encuentro.
This program presents music from Brazil, Cuba, Venezuela and Mexico. The Literature segment presents some selections from a Spanish language version of the “Rubáiyát” by the Persian mathematician, astronomer, philosopher and poet Omar Khayyám.
In celebration of the upcoming International Workers’ Day and “El día del niño” (celebrated in Mexico on April 30), this program presents music about labor, workers, children and childhood. The literature segment presents a small homage to the great Chilean poet Gonzalo Rojas —who passed away this Monday, April 25.
