This is the second and last program for KFAI’s Fall Pledge Drive. Like the previous program, it consists of songs that caught a lot of attention when they were played in “Encuentro” during the last few months.
The music section of this program (the first 1½ hours) has a single theme: A celebration of the successful rescue of the 33 miners in northern Chile. The last ½ hour of the program presents an interview with Mario Vargas Llosa, winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature, and a reading, in his own voice, of a small fragment from “Conversación en la catedral”.
This program presents music from Cuba, Colombia, Mexico and Argentina. It also includes some Portuguese Fados. Beginning at 9:30, the section dedicated to Spanish language literature presents the first part of a 1977 talk by Jorge Luis Borges about blindness.
The first ½ hour presents Boleros from Cuba and songs from Nicaragua and Costa Rica. From 8:30 until 9:30, the program includes a Musical Offering in observance of “El Día de los Muertos”. The section dedicated to Spanish language literature presents the second and last part of the 1977 talk by Jorge Luis Borges about blindness.
