In celebration of the “Marimba 2010 International Congress and Conference,” the first ½ hour consists of marimba music from Mexico and Guatemala. The second ½ hour includes music in celebration of International Workers’ Day. The last ½ hour presents Vallenatos from Colombia and the last 8 minutes include a short story (“Los jueves”) by the Mexican writer Mónica Lavín.

The first ½ hour is dedicated to songs about mothers and motherhood. The second ½ hour consists of Cuban songs inspired on cries that peddlers use to sell their merchandise. The last ½ hour presents music from Uruguay; the last 12 minutes include a short story by the Uruguayan Horacio Quiroga (1878-1937).

The first 45 minutes are dedicated to songs that have to do with immigrants and emigration; it will include the “corrido”, issued just a few days ago, “Estado de Vergüenza” (State of Shame), about Arizona’s Law SB 1070. The rest of the program will be dedicated to songs from the Spanish Civil War. The last 8 minutes present a chronicle by the Mexican writer Juan Villoro read by the author himself.

Today’s program is dedicated entirely to Argentinean music. This Tuesday, May 25th, Argentina celebrates the 200th anniversary of the May Revolution, the series of events that marked the beginning of the process of its Independence from Spain.

Today’s program includes Caribbean music (particularly from Cuba, Mexico and Colombia) and three voices from Brazil. The last ½ hour presents music from Chile. The last six minutes consist of a small fragment of “La boda del poeta”, a novel by the Chilean Antonio Skármeta read by Skármeta himself.
