Johnny Winter called in from someplace on the road on his way to Kansas City. We chatted with Johnny and his producer Paul Nelson. Their cellphone crapped out a few times, but we weaved our way thru the interview. Ah, the beauty of live radio.
Teague Alexy stopped into the studio with his new CD “This Dance” in hand. We played a couple tracks from it plus Teague performed a few tunes live in the studio.
I also played a couple tracks by Leon Helm, who passed away the next day. “Rain Down Tears” was from his 1977 release Levon Helm & The RCO All-Stars, an album I play often on the show. Another track by Levon was “When I Go Away”, an especially moving piece from his Electric Dirt release of 2009.
Also, we played a track from Muddy Waters Woodstock Album, on which Levon played drums and bass.
Next week, we’ll have an interview with Charlie Parr.
