April 2010 Freewheelin' Archives

Next week: My guest DJs will be Bill and Ernie Batson of The Hypstrz and Mighty Mofos. They’ll also be appearing May 7th at my new music series “Freewheelin’ First Fridays” at the 331 Club.

I hope you can stop by for a rockin’ night of music.

This was the “no, Leon Russell did not die today” show. I had calls from concerned listeners wondering if Leon passed away….all because I played more than one of his songs in a row!!

Glad to say he’s still with us.

Also, we continued to listen to the new release by Peter Wolf, plus played the usual mix that took us all over the roots map.

Post-pledge drive program, which means lots of music, very little talk.

Thanks to all who pledged the past couple of weeks.

Today, we featured a new release by Peter Wolf along with some early (pre-Centerfold, circa 1970) tracks by the J Geils Band, of which he was the lead singer.

We also heard a couple of twangy tracks by Nick Lowe and His Cowboy Outfit and Brinsley Schwarz, his early 70’s band.

Thanks to everyone for their support during our pledge drive show. I’m a lucky man to be able to be a small part of your lives and play music for you every Monday.

I’d like to thank Angie Pykonen of KFAI’s In Your Ear, Larry Englund of Rhythm & Grooves, Ron Thums of Radio Rumpus Room, and David Cummings of Rockin’ In Rhythm for joining me on-air this week.

Thanks to our producer Beth Shaw for keeping us all on-task and in line.

And, a big tip of the cap to Greg, Pat, and The Nighthawk for answering phones and talking with everyone who called in.
