At LIONS (Dragstrip) one night, I was on a strong pass and at about half track I saw a blower belt go past me, then about 3/4 of the way down track, I saw another blower belt go by. Then as I pulled off the track I noticed I didn’t have any front tires either…”

News item: A Northwest Airlines commercial flight originating in San Diego inexplicably ignored over a dozen frantic calls from air traffic controllers as it overshot its Minneapolis destination by 150 miles. (It turned around over northwest Wisconsin and landed successfully, though the first ones on the plane were armed FBI agents, suspecting a hijacking.)

If you ever have to go to Shoeburyness
Take the A road, the okay road that’s the best
Go motorin’ on the A13

If you’re looking for a thrill that’s new
Take in Fords, Dartford Tunnel and the river too
Go motorin’ on the A13

It starts down in Wapping
There ain’t no stopping
By-pass Barking and straight through Dagenham
Down to Grays Thurrock
And rather near Basildon
Pitsea, Thundersley, Hadleigh, Leigh-On-Sea,
Chalkwell, Prittlewell
Southend’s the end

If you ever have to go to Shoeburyness
Take the A road, the okay road that’s the best
Go motorin’ on the A13
