The Uh-Oh!s in review Pt. 2! This time we managed to put a release year to most of our selections, and we’re pretty sure
the Esquivel disc and the two Ultra Lounge picks in Sherwood’s Seasonal Cheer for the Orthodox set were the only discs not issued in the ’00s. ’00… we left Lolli at home this week…
whoops, sorry! But hey… MNSka artists made the 4@4 this week!
Cap’n George and State of the Nation go out to anybody (me!) who went to the big screen and saw Avatar.
We reprise our Ska-Doo-Dee-Don mix in the first half-hour, Sherwood drops a couple by Thelonious Moog (yes, Moog) in Hour 2, andwe have a 4(+1) of Ladies Of Ska (and then some!) kicking off Hour 3! Our remaining supply of Lollipops seems to have fallen into a black hole, so we may hold off on ‘em for a few weeks. We had some Skapanese fun with Rico the TSPO, Rockin’ Rumico A Million Bamboo, and some Mule Train. Tarzan checked in (thank you Mr. Review!), the Moon Invaders had their house blown down by Katrina, Little Tempo shook it up (baby!) and we all had fun(n) ‘til The End. Wheeeeee!!
After a first hour fairly evenly split into sets of original, 2Tone, and 3rd-era ska, Sherwood B. Funn visits Monster Island (among other stops on his itinerary) The Cap’n Cozy’s 4(+2)@4 travels around the world and winds up back in Jamaica where Ska was born, and we’z gots Lollipop this week, courtesy of someone named Gizzelle!
The RSST gets blue… beat, that is! We open with a set that contains blue or blues in either the artist name, the track title, the record label, or all three! The bluest: Brigitte Bond the Blue Beats – Blue Beat Baby, on Blue Beat Records! Sherwood unearths a piece of KFAI history, playing Tea-A-Wanna-Whistle (the Little City In Space news theme) uninterrupted by yakety-yak for the first time in the 31 years the station’s been on the air(!) and Hour 3 features a Django-centric 4(+1)-in-a-row. Again we couldn’t scare up a fresh Lolli this week.
