April 2012 The Pop Shop Archives

Did you know that on April 3, 1973, Motorola exec Martin Cooper introduced the first cell? It was bigger than his head and weighed about 5 lbs, but thanks to Marty it’s easy today to call KFAI and make a pledge! Liberty Finch is standing by at 612-375-9030 to take your call, while DJ Izzy mans the wheels of steel. Thanks to all who’ve pledged and to rap partners Scott G. Hanson and Larry Englund for their support. Giving is fun!

The Pop Shop celebrates its first anniversary on KFAI! Join us for a night of bodacious bubblegum pop, including cartoon tunes, teen idols and more. It’s a happy birthday par-tay!

The Pop Shop is a flutter for Record Store Day 2012! Saturday can’t come soon enough, so in the meantime we’ll play favorites from last year’s RSD, plus recent acquisitions to the Lincoln Terrace music library and new music by the Honeydogs, Shiny Lights, Willie Wisely Trio, Smash Palace and more.

This week we unwrap some of the RSD booty, including sweet Sundazed 45s. We also remember Levon Helm and Dick Clark, and spin birthday tracks for Glen Campbell and Tony Visconti. Plus, a nod AND a wink to Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame inductees, (Small) Faces.
