Guests Jacqueline Regis and Alyssa Glawe will speak of the upcoming 14 Juillet (Bastille Day) celebration to be held Saturday, July 16, at the University Club. There will be live music (Francine Roche, Mark Stillman, Jim Price), French food, rides in vintage Citroën cars, and a market place with articles for sale. Several local bakeries will compete for the best French baguette with a plaque and recognition for the winner.
Tonight is our Bastille Day program, celebrating the overthrow of the French Monarchy. Music will include the national anthem, la Marseillaise, in several versions. Other songs are from the time (1789) and some are modern based on the theme of the French Revolution. Louise and Caryl will also tell of past memories of their 14 juillet, along with announcements of present-day celebrations.
It’s an all-music program, with music old and new from France, French Canada, and Louisiana Cajun music. Louise and Caryl also report on activities and films in the Twin Cities of interest to French speakers and those interested in French events.
