Tonight’s program has something for everyone. To start, there is a brief presentation from Noel en France, which contains descriptions of regional saints during Advent: St. Nicholas, St. Andre or Andrew, St. Thomas and Ste. Lucie, followed by a song. Then, from Senegal, monks at the Keur Moussa abbey sing an Advent song in wolof, a local language.
Many Golden Oldies of past great artists continue, followed by new songs from France and announcements of local activities and some items of general interest from France.
Tonight’s program features Nelly Trocme Hewett, daughter of a Huguenot pastor during World War II. Pastor Andre Trocme opposed war and Hitler’s brutal genocide. Andre Trocme was a brillant writer with quick wit and humor. His Christmas stories appeared to be for children, at first glance, but were equally important for adults.
You will hear the stories first in English, and then in French, read by his daughter, Nelly. The program will also contain many French Christmas carols.
Tonight, we will play the last two installments of Christmas in France, brief recordings of music and narration telling of celebrations in Alsace, in the east, and in Provence, in the south. Then, there will be three songs for children, some golden oldies, and finally new music from France and French-speaking countries.
