October 2016 Global Beat Archives

Today's episode begins with some African/Latin blends – with an Iberian peninsula flavor. Moving over to Puerto Rico for a tribute to songstress – Silvia Rexach.  Then to a review from the Colombian combo named Monsieur Perine', who played the Dakota last month, and another Colombian combo recently playing the Cedar's Global Roots festival, Palenke Soultribe, based out of L.A.  Also coming to The Cedar this week – three tracks from Brasiliera Luisa Maita's recent release – Fio Da Memoria.

Today's program opens with a couple Dave Van Ronk classics leading into a few rare Harry Belafonte tracks – followed by some Dylan civil rights gems.  I come out of that period to Michael Franti & Spearhead and on to three locals Willie Murphy, Maria Isa and Jon Rodine.  The latter leads into a tribute to a lost West Bank community member Sarah Bowman – who sadly left us in recent weeks.
