HIghlights include previews of upcoming performances in-town by David Broza, Sierra Leone Refugee All-Stars, Paris Combo, and a review of Meklit Hadero’s third visit to Mpls. Opening this week, a set of African Islamic & Christian music, first from an ex-Algerian singer living in France and on to the Sudan bridging No. & So. Muslim & Christian – acoustic, classic jazz, and more. On down the road, I also feature some Tango & Fado before moving on to Salsa, and the voice of recently departed Cheo Feliciano. Before the end of the show – I squeeze in a long track from the new Caetano Veloso release and end with a Mingus original – the ‘Original Faubus Fables’.
Opening 3 song tribute to Charles Mingus; followed by a Cedric Watson tune, a single fado track, some Mideast popular songs, and a preview of Eugene, OR.-based reggae group, Sol Seed, coming to Mpls. in May. Also a preview of Israeli pianist Idan Raichel coming to St. Paul soon… all leading to Canadian Juno Award-winning guitarist Jesse Cook, he and his band will be in Mpls. Sat. nite at the Pantages Theater. He calls in for an interview in anticipation of his impending visit !
