Another night of dub overload! So many new releases, including: the Dub Club’s new “Bubble Dub” (on Stones Throw); Pale Rider’s cool new “CO7” EP; Longman’s excellent “Akhenaten’s Dream” album; the new “Two Sacred Swords” 12” from Alpha Steppa & Lutan Fyah; Makiko’s rootical “High Stepper” single (on 176Sound); Gaudi’s adventurous “In Between Times” (on Six Degrees); and Mystica Tribe’s sublime “Stars Are Mine” EP (on SD Records). On top of that was more new stuff from Taj Weekes & Odawa, Obidaya/Dubmatix, Almighty Sion, Black Saturn, Bentesoi, Mahala Rai Banda/Mad Professor, Violeta Vil, Claudia Aru, Bandulu Dub, David Powell, Twile, The RBC, A Tribe Called Red, and Grant Phahao presents The Jays. If that wasn’t enough, we also crammed in some Prince Jammy, Black Roots, Overproof Sound System, Jah Wobble’s Invaders of the Heart, Kukan Dub Lagan, Lee Perry & the Upsetters, Nobukazu Takemura, Savage Aural Hotbed , Dennis “Blackbeard” Bovell, Bad Brains, and still more…

What better way to kick off summer than a cool new album from Mykal Rose (aka Michael Rose) – and one that contains some real cool Ethiopian jazz elements! That would be “Showdown Inna Bloody Town” on Foreign Key Records. Followed this up with some really nice new sounds from Alois Huber & Oh Gee (two different new 10” releases on Dubonwax), Dub Club (Tom Chasteen & Tippa Lee), Madness, Patko, Red Barrio, Dubzoic (remixing Alpha & Omega), Dub One!, Red Star Martyrs, Morning Sun & Essentials, Dubtrak, Los Transatlanticos, Dubmatix (feat. U-Roy & Cornell Campbell), Longman, Mutant Frogs, and Prism. Another highlight tonight was The Groove Thief’s mix “Free Dubs: Nox” (available on Mixcloud) which featured Linton Kwesi Johnson, Injham, earlyW~Rm, Dubmatix, Negritage, Reggae Roast ands more. Rounding out the program were The Drastics, Dr. Echo & Solange St. Croix, Jazzmin Tutum, Steve Turre, Jazzmin Tutum, Babilonci, Weather Report, Banco de Gaia, The Upsetters Dub Campaign, and more…

Summer’s here…and tons of new music to fill the airwaves. Starting things tonight with the first release on the new Dub-o-phonic netlabel, the excellent “Creation” album from Dub-I. This was followed by the very cool new Sound & Power Version of the “Two-Edged Sword” track from Profit out of Berlin. Also new tonight were releases by Manudub (on Ape Choons), Cornell Campbell, Red Barrio, Patko, Piper St. Sound, Mykal Rose, Archie Pelago, The Lions, and Mutant Frogs. Another highlight of the show was Emch’s Subatomic Sound Radio Mix from Red Light Radio – which featured lots of Lee Scratch Perry in the mix. Filling things out with tunes from DJCris Macumbadub, Malika Madremana, Brownout, Tsunami Wazahari, SXtheMadArtist, Tommy McCook & the Supersonics, YesKing, Jah Wobble, Steffe, Bob Marley & the Wailers/Bill Laswell, Ticklah, Love Trio in Dub ft. U-Roy, and more…

What could be better than a bunch of new and old dub & roots…and a mix of rare Colombian music? The new stuff included Dubtonic Kru’s hard-hitting new “Evolution” album; Voodoo Dred’s cool “Racine” (on the Dub Temple netlabel); Jesse Royal’s new free In Comes the Small Axe mixtape release; Mista Majah P’s latest single; the excellent “Jumbie in the Jukebox” album from Kobo Town (on Cumbancha); and the fine “Samedi Sound System meets Science Project in Dub” (also on Dub Temple). More new sounds from Mykal Rose, E.R.S., Dub-I, The Prizefighters, and Dubrise. For the summer mix we went on a bit of a tangent and aired “A Mixtape of Rare Colombian Music” put together by DJ Mario Galeano to promote the film Esperando el Tsunami (produced by Vincent Moon & Lulacruza). Keeping things global we also aired The Garifuna Collective, Empresarios, and Ondatropica. More rootical sounds from the likes of Aldubb, King Tubby, The Lions, Augustus Pablo, Easy Star All Stars (ft. Horace Andy), Bandulu Dub, Eating Betty, Dr. Echo & Solange St. Croix, Little Tempo, and more…
