On February 6, 1945 Robert Nesta Marley was born in the small village of Nine Mile in Jamaica. Forty-four years later, on February 6, 1989 the great dubmaster King Tubby was senselessly murdered in Kingston. One man had become a legend the world round. The other was a legend in the reggae world, and a permanent influence upon recording studio techniques and technology.
Tonight the Echo Chamber proudly presented our annual “Tribute to Tuff Gong & Tubby” special. Four hours of great roots and dub from the masters Bob Marley and King Tubby, and many friends… From dubs to remixes, and cover versions and tribute songs, we had quite a mix of great music. So, in addition to songs from Bob Marley & the Wailers, and dubs produced by King Tubby, we featured: Tack>>Head, Dub Terminator, CeU, Prince Wadada, Youssou N’Dour, Yes King, Neon Black, Marissa Lindsay, Hepcat, Lone Ranger, Rita Marley, Chin Dub, Judy Mowatt, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Cedella Marley Booker, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Mad Professor, the Skatalites, Johnny Nash, Johnny Cash (feat. Joe Strummer), Steady Earnest, Grover Washington Jr., and many more. Finally, DJ Baby Swiss wound things up with another Feb. 6 reggae birthday, that of the great artist/producer Derrick Harriott, here being covered by Giuliano Palma and doing his own thing alongside U-Roy.
