Kicking off a brand new year in style! Dub style that is… First off however, we had two cool versions of “Auld Lang Syne” – Eban Schletter’s cosmic electronic version, and Ghetto Priest’s nyabinghi melding of the New Year classic and his reworking of Robert Burns’ “Slave’s Lament”. Then came the dub, including brand new stuff from Aldubb, Radiola Dub Sound System, Profit, Bandulu Dub, and MakaRon, and recent releases from Kojo Neatness, The Breadwinners, Super Hi-Fi, Adrian Sherwood, Dub Rifles, Invisible Criminal, and Bost & Bim (mashing up Jimi Hendix!). Added to this were Prince Fatty, Anthony B, Empresarios, Dub Majestic, Hal Blaine, David Pablo, John Brown’s Body, Steve Steppa, Kukan Dub Lagan, Ruts DC & Mad Professor, Celt Islam ft. Dawoud Kringle, The Abyssinians, I-Roy, and more…

Looking forward to a new year of dubwise music, Dr. StrangeDub did a 2012 retrospective in the first half of the show. First up was the choice new “On the Ground – Dub Version” album from Black Roots (on Sugar Shack), followed by Aldubb’s excellent “Welcome to Bassland” (on One-Drop). Then came two rootical new releases on Urban Tree: Simon Grohe’s “Rot EP” and Benjie’s “Gelobtes Land” album. Also new tonight: the cool new “Light like a Feather” single from Jesse Royal; the nice 2-CD “Marcia Griffiths and Friends” collection (on VP Records); the hot “Angle It EP” from Nappy Riddem (on Fort Knox); and SXtheMadArtist’s sublime “in HrZland” EP (released on Christmas day). Also in the 2012 retrospective were Pale Rider, Nneka, Kukan dub Lagan, Ras Sis Highness, Adrian Sherwood, Bandulu Dub, Quantic And His Combo Barbaro (feat. Alice Russell), The Breadwinners, Celt islam, and A Man Called PJ. Filling out the show with King Tubby, Tommy McCook & Aggrovators, Dread Daze, Blondub Sexy Sound, Kadubra (Earth-Ground Combination Remix), Benny Bennet & his Orchestra, Mouse on Mars, Mikus, AB2G, Dennis “Blackbeard” Bovell, Shiina Ringo, Jah Wobble & Deep Space, The Slits, and more…

Another night of great new releases, some cool reggae oldies, some world sounds, and a few real eclectic items. Kicking off the fun with fresh new roots from Human Digital (on the “Doodad EP” from McPullish’s Charlie’s Records); Yabass Yaba Radics (featuring Michael Rose); Downtown Beat (from the album “Home” on LaFamille); Lord Hissayas (from Moshi Kamachi’s excellent Earth Strong Vol. 1 compilation on KingDub); Ras Bruno (with Culture Bown & Sista Caro) on Dan Dada Records; Jashwa Moses from his upcoming 12” release on Sugar Shack and Martin Zobel & Soulrise from the sublime “Land of the Free” album on Irie Vibrations (released June 2012). More new sounds from Black Roots, Signal Orange (from the clubby “Flugestunde Eins” compilation from the Libelle group/label), Ephraim Juda, Kabaka Pyramid, and Mystical Weapons (Sean Lennon’s latest project). In the great oldies department we had Laurel Aitken, Yabby You (aka Yabby U), Wayne Jarrett & Silver Fox, Pablo Gad, among others. World-wise sounds coming in from Souljazz Orchestra, Rupa & the April Fishes, Novalima, Beats Antique, Dub Colossus, and others. And in DJ Baby Swiss’ eclectix mix we found Emil Richards & the Microtonal Blues Band, Jah Wobble & Deep Space, Mutant Frogs, YMCK, and “Nashville Sputnik: The Deep South/Outer Space Productions of Jack Blanchard and Misty Morgan”. How’s that for a variety of cool sounds?

Tonight The Echo Chamber commemorated the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. – featuring the “I Have A Dream” speech as well as parts of the “A Knock At Midnight” sermon. Also tonight we celebrated the second inauguration of Barack Obama, and included the oath of office, plus bits from the inaugural address. But of course, it was the great music which fit the theme and really made the show… This included tracks like KnowledgeBorn07’s “Overcome”, Black Roots’ “Struggle Dub”, Keith Hudson’s “National Anthem (Dub)”, Daddy Roots’ “We Shall Overcome”, Human Digital’s “Trouble Ahead”, Dubkasm’s “Biblical Dub”, Louie Kulcha’s “How Long Dub”, “Oppressor Version” from The Steady Ups vs. Doctor Echo, Johnny Osbourne’s “Truth and Rights”, and tracks from the “MLK Dub” album on the Xterminator label. Also tonight, recent releases from Dubor & the Duborians, Yabass Yaba Radics, Sorian, Profit, Downtown Beat, Empresarios, Ras Bruno, and Sly & Robbie.

Another night filled with great new releases, some classics, and a few eclectic items. Brand new releases included: Mind’s Eye Dub’s “Uhuru” (on DubKey); Sorian’s “Out of the Box” (on MikelaBella); the excellent compilation “Dubble Trubble” (on Gravitas); the “System Ruff” single from OBF & Warrior Queen; Infinite Third’s “Electronicalm”; “The Echocentrics Remixes (feat. Grant Phabao)”; and Mambutu’s “Tepid Femme” (on Boom One). More recent releases from Red Star Martyrs, Jim Murple Memorial, Dub Majestic, Sly & Robbie, ACEtone Studios, and the great archival release “Sound ‘n’ Pressure Story” (on Reggae Archive Records) highlighting the dubplates from Fish & Goat and All Nation Rockers. DJ Baby Swiss had some fun with Little Tempo, Trio Esperanca, Lord Creator, Xavier Quijas Yxayotl, Dry & Heavy, and others, while StrangeDub included The Breadwinners, Black Uhuru, Taj Weekes & Adowa, Dubor & the Duborians, Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars, and still more..
