Tonight we had the great pleasure to feature the new Echo Chamber – Around the World In Dub – Vol. 1 & 2 album! That’s right…the first Echo Chamber album was officially released on Bandcamp.com on July 5th. On the program tonight we played the entire Volume 2 of this compilation album, featuring: Kukan Dub Lagan, Celt Islam feat. Tonight the Echo Chamber celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Jamaican Independence, and the incredible feats of the JA track team at the Olympics, in fine style. Our “Golden Jubilee Special” was pure Jamaican: plenty of classic early tracks; some fresh new singers & players; some righteous dubs; and a trio of songs honoring Jamaican Olympians. The show included: Derrick Morgan, Jimmy Cliff, Tommy James feat. L&S symfHoney, Cherine Anderson, Lone Ranger & Grant Phabao, The Jamaicans, Desmond Dekker, King Stitt & Owen Gray, U-Roy & The Paragons, Toots & the Maytals, Tommy McCook & Supersonics, Dubtonic Kru, Luciano, Ossie Hibbert, Bob Marley & the Wailers, Konshens, Impact All Stars, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Omar Perry, Jesse Royal, Ziggy Marley, Don Corleon, Bim Sherman, Ras Takura, Taurus Alphonso, Marcia Griffiths (with Dubblestandart), Dub Syndicate (feat. And finally, to celebrate the successful landing of the Curiosity Rover on Mars, DJ Baby Swiss used the first letter of each track (from Glen Brown through Desmond Dekker) to spell out “CURIOSITY”.
Tonight we followed up on our “Golden Jubilee” special from last week with lots more Jamaican artists – including Horace Andy, Gregory Isaacs, The Gladiators, Jimmy Cliff, Dubtonic Kru, G.G. All Stars, Sly & Robbie, Bunny Lee & the Aggrovators, The Skatalites, and more. This also included part of an Alton Ellis tribute mix originally aired on On The Wire at BBC Tadio Lancashire. But that just got us started… Also tonight we featured a number of new releases – including Steve Steppa’s excellent Zohar Inspired Dubplates, the new Dub Colossus “Dub Me Tender – Vol. 1+2”, the Volume EP from Empresarios, and the self-titled album from Dub Majestic.
Another night in the Echo Chamber just loaded with new tunes… Brand new releases including Slimmah Sound & various artists (Roots Tribe Showcase – Vol. II); Citizen Sound’s “Addicted” remixes (Balanced Records) featuring Ammoye; Dubmission’s new “The Next Mission (Pt. 2)” compilation; Ashley’s latest Roots in a Minor Key album; and a very powerful single from Eggblood (and feat. E.G. Bailey) titled “Morning on Creation Day”. On top of that were recent releases from Steve Steppa, Jimmy Cliff, Ondatropica, Empresarios, Cinematic Orchestra, Big Shiny, Dr. Mooch, and Richie Phoe.
Kicking things off tonight with the excellent new “Rise Up and Love” album from Doktor Lond & Agarfa (Roots Lab Int’l/Springline). This was followed by the new dub-heavy “In the Chamber of Dub” album from General Levy & Joe Ariwa (son of Mad Professor). On top of this we had new tunes from The Dynamics, Tony Dubshot, Dub Colossus, Dr. Echo, Madness, Jah Marnyah, and Full Dub. Then, in the middle of the program, we aired part 1 of Dr. StrangeDub’s “In the garden of Dub” mix. This dubwise mix celebrates the pleasures of gardening, the roots of life, and the seasons of nature.
