Pledge drive time at KFAI and The Echo Chamber was packed full of new tunes…and some great old ones. Starting off with the new Dubnight Chap.3: Revelation Flux compilation on Kingdub Records:http://kingdub.com/home, and following that with the 3-CD boxset FX100 which marks the 100th release on Jarring Effects:http://www.jarringeffects.net/fx100 Also, new tonight: Undercover from J. Boogie’s Dubtronic Science, Elektrafone from Beats Antique, Rolling Lion Studio’s House of Dread, Natacha Atlas’ Mounqaliba – Rising: The Remixes, and Virtual Dub 4 from Manwel T’s Dubkey:http://dubkey.com label. In the Swissiverse, the baby DJ dropped the Rico classic Jungle Beat into the mix, hot on the heels of TSPO, J.M. Jarre, Shiina Ringo, Capsula, The Soulsteppers, and YMCK.
From the oldest dub album, to the freshest, newest dub albums, the Echo Chamber has it all. Starting off tonight with Java Java Java Java, the Clive Chin produced album that is sometimes referred to as the first dub album. Now Java Java Java Java is finally out on CD. As for brand new dub and roots, the show included the new dub compilations Virtual Dub 4 and Dubnight Chap.3: Revelation Flux, the new Ways and Means album from The Green (on Easy Star), and Empresarios’ Bestia EP (on Fort Knox). The other big highlight of the show was the Springline Jamaica:http://www.springlinejamaica.com mix Creation Vault Mixtape vol. 1 , featuring Creation Rockers, Yabass, The Manor, and HIMperial Rockers.
What a crazy mix of sounds tonight – everything from the latest dub from the Droegenbwoys, to the Tuareg blues of Tinariwen, to the funtime Euro-jazz of 11 Acorn Lane, the Cuban jazz of Cachaito Lopez, and the 8-bit fun of YMCK from Japan. Brand new releases included: the free “Droegenbwoys meets the Online Dub Family” compilation; Dubtrak’s excellent “Rapture” album; the very cool Psychic Life EP (featuring Jah Wobble, Julie Campbell, & Keith Levene); and Roots Manuva’s new “4Everevolution” album. More new tunes tonight from Dubsmith, Sista M, Brandy Alexander Project + Laps, Earlyworm, Waitapu, Prince Rama, Mildtape, Dub Radix, and Larry Kucharz.
All the ghouls, goblins, ghosts, and dreads gathered with Dr. StrangeDub & DJ Baby Swiss in the annual Echo Chamber of Horrors! And what a howling good show – with layers of special effects & soundbytes, including the movies “Dracula”, “Frankenstein”, “The Exorcist”, and more – and tons of scary dubwise music.
