August 2014 Rhythm and Grooves Archives

Cory Washington stepped in today while I was out of town, presenting a cool mix of Latin jazz and more.

DAvid Martin came by to talk about his new CD with Mike Doolin, entitled Tough Commute, and play a couple of tracks. We also heard new B3 music from Akiko, as well as music from Johnny Hartman, EST, Stanley Turrentine, Davina & the Vagabonds, Freda Payne, Doc Cheatham & Nicholas Payton, Gerald Wilson, Gene Ammons and  a few Count Basie numbers, including It's the Sand, Man, our 45 of the week.

A few new things today, including tunes from Paul Carr, Mark Elf, Bruce Henry, and the Dakota Combo, as well as contemporary music from Ellis Marsalis, Doug Little, and Irv Williams. Older music from Miles, Johnny Hartman, and The Quintet (Dizzy, Bird, Mingus, Bud Powell, and Max Roach). The 45 of the week was Doxie, part 1, by Cal Tjader.
