They were putting on a concert, along with two other women, called Global, Local, and Homemade songs. to celebrate all kinds of songs and include community singing. I also played music from Wes Montgomery, Tony Guerrero, Pete Malinverni, Jackie McLean, and Paqutio D’Rivera. Today’s Mingus Moment featured Duke Ellington’s Sound of Love from the Changes I album.
New music from Twin Cities artists James Buckley, and from the Small City Trio, whose leader, Jeremy Walker has moved to NYC. Also heard new music from Gabriel Alegria and the Afro-Peruvian Jazz Sextet, bassist Colin Dean, and Dan Block. Got to play a number of older tunes today, including performances from Jimmy Smith, Gene Ammons, David Sanchez, Kenny Barron, and both the Mingus Big Band, and Charles Mingus.
NYC Pianist Pete Malinverni phoned in to talk about his music and his new CD, A Beatriful Thing. I also played new music from Bob Mintzer, Cyrus Chestnut, Andy Farber,Carolyn Leonhart, and Louis Hayes. Classic tunes included music from Count Basie, Thelonious Monk, Art Van Damme, and Charles Mingus.
