Nicola Miller stopped by to preview her new CD and talk about her upcoming CD release party at the Artists Quarter. I also played music by Charles Kynard, Miles Davis, Big Joe Turner, Sun Ra, Jelly Roll Morton, and Duke Ellington, as well as new music from The Clayton Brothers, Dan Block, and Joe Magnarelli. Cory Wong stopped by to talk about Pena, the Afro-Peruvian music CD he recorded (and played on some tracks) during a visit to Peru last Spring. I also played new music from Bob Mintzer, Joe Magnarelli, Christian Howe, Pete Maliverni, and Eugene Marlowe’s Heritage Ensemble, as well as classic tunes from Gerry Mulligan, King Pleasure, and Anita O’Day. For the Mingus Moment, I played a cut from Money Jungle, by Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach.
New York City guitarist Paul Bollenback stopped by to talk about his craft. I also played music from Joey DeFrancesco, Carolyn Leonhart, Eden Brent and the Afro-Peruvian Jazz Sextet. Area guitarist Zacc Harris also stopped by to talk about the Atlantis Quartet and their interpretation of the Led Zeppelin album Houses of the Holy.
