Larry Long joined us in studio this week to talk about the American Roots Revue presenting him with JD Steele, Tonia Hughes and Robert Robinson at the Dakota on Friday, November 22nd, for two shows. We talked about Long’s latest release which features all of those singers, “Don’t Stand Still,” and how he can stay so optimistic and positive despite writing about some of our most difficult social issues. Long’s advice is to get tickets to the 9pm show Friday—and we gave some away—because the 7pm is nearly sold out. We also heard new music from Blood Orange and a track from the incredible tribute to Slim Dunlap issued last week by New West Records. Our featured festival was the Midtown Global Market’s Green Gifts Fair, but another place to be Saturday evening would be the tribute to Sue McLean and benefit for Lilly being staged at First Avenue starting at 6pm.

New music this week from The Gories live album, Superchunk, local artist Courtney Yasmineh and her band, and the tribute to Slim Dunlap put together by New West records—proceeds of sales go toward Slim’s medical expenses. We also gave tickets away to the International Reggae All-Stars 25th anniversary show at The Cabooze—congratulations to them for more than two decades of warming up stages in the Twin Cities and beyond with their island rhythms!
