September 2013 Pam Without Boundaries Archives

Local songwriter Anthony Novak joined us this holiday morning. He’s a native Minnesotan returning after musical stints in New York and New Mexico and he says he hasn’t experienced the kind of fellowship among musicians he’s felt here in Minneapolis. Props to us! Novak brings his Americana-worldly Eastern group to the stage at the 331 Thursday, September 5th, then at the Driftwood Char Bar and the Acadia later this month. We also heard new music this morning from North Mississippi Allstars and Califone.

It’s that time of year where many new releases and box sets hit store shelves in preparation for the holiday season. This morning we heard new Neko Case, Okkervil River, British band Treetop Flyers, and our own local project from Brian Tighe and Alison LaBonne: The Starfolk. You remember them from The Hang-Ups. The Starfolk released a self-titled debut album this week and will celebrate it with a show at The Electric Fetus on Saturday, Seotember 14th. Be there around 4pm for a treat! Check the playlist for Steep Canyon Rangers, Emiliana Torrini, “Vintage France”…

International music DJ Paul Harding joined us this morning with new tracks and a list of the world beat shows coming up over the next few weeks. We heard from some of these artists this morning:

-Weds. 9/18: Krar Collective with Waayaha Cusub @ The Cedar Cultural Center (one of the Cedar’s free 25th anniversary celebration shows!)

Local songwriter Brian Laidlaw joined us this morning upon the release of his new ep “Echolalia.” He’ll have a proper party Friday, October 25th at Icehouse in Minneapolis. We talked about recording it in San Francisco and having his dear friend based there on the record and coming to town for the party. We also talked about Brian’s Minnesota Cultural Heritage project—he only teased us a bit about it, but what it means is that we might see him on PWB sometime early 2014…
