New music from The Polyphonic Spree and Gogol Bordello this morning. We also heard sisters Jaspar Lepak and Janelle Loes in advance of their concert at the Harriet Bandshell, both visiting songwriters although Jaspar has maintained her connection to the Twin Cities since moving out west.
You heard new Buddy Guy featuring Beth Hart, Robert Randolph presenting The Slide Brothers, and new music from a seasoned singer who’s done supporting stints with many well-known pop artists and is finally getting some traction on her own: Carsie Blanton. Look her up, it will be worth your while.
New music from Superchunk and Tedeschi Trucks Band (both out this week), as well as new Garifuna Collective, Trombone Shorty, mellow tones from Hiatus Kaiyote (thanks Radio Pocho for the tip) and good ol’ Reverend Horton Heat in advance of their show at First Avenue on Thursday.
This morning’s show started with a beautiful Temple of Sound piece dedicated in memory of Hussein Samatar, founder of the first Somali-language program on KFAI and an incredible force in our community who will be dearly missed. We heard new music this morning from Franz Ferdinand, Moreland & Arbuckle and Baltimore’s Red Sammy—likely not heard anywhere else but worth a listen! Check the playlist for more fun new and not-forgotten not-so-new music…
