We gave away tickets this morning to Saturday’s Saints game (hi, Matthew!) and to Dark Star Orchestra. We previewed the third edition of Sweet Relief, appropriately through Victoria Williams’ contribution to the eclectic collection of singer-songwriters. We also heard Tina Schlieske’s incredible rendition of “With a Little Help From My Friends” on that album. Check the playlist for more audio travels from Flamenco to local to new music from Owen.

New music from The Garifuna Collective, Jimmy Cliff’s new live KCRW session record, Robert Pollard and more!

We had a lovely conversation in the first hour with Shirli McAllen, vocalist and songwriter for Leftover Cuties, playing at the Dakota Wednesday, July 17th. We also had a great first set with new Austra into local The Dirty Banks into Spoon. A set like that really brings out the radio nerd in your host… Check the playlist for new David Lynch, Future Bible Heroes and more!

New music kicked off the show from Mavis Staples on the heels of her great, hour-plus long performance at the Minnesota Zoo—she’s coming back with Bonnie Raitt in October! We also heard singer-songwriter Red Sammy, new Hot Chip and new Austra, coming to the Triple Rock September 1st.

New music from Pocahontas County this morning (thanks, Justin!) as well as Kermit Ruffins and our friends from Kansas City, Moreland & Arbuckle. Their new album on Telarc is out this week and what a surprise in the Tears for Fears cover—and it works!
