Had a lot of fun on the first show of 2012 this morning. Revisited Lemon Jelly, put us in the mood for some garage/surf with The Exotics and Legendary Shack*Shakers, and celebrated local music with old Picked-to-Click group The Odd and a not-yet-released song from the duo The Broken Lines.
Heard from the new Tom Waits album this morning, and new local music from Sonic Love Child and Still Pacific. And, the voice of Christine Rosholt. RIP hard-working singer, and thank you for all the song.
Had so much fun with Eric Foss from Secret Stash Records in the studio during the 11am hour, giving us a preview of Mickey Murray’s reissue out this week. He also let us know the label is working on a Latin funk compilation, and played a track for us. You know we look very forward to that set of music!
New music this morning from Martin Sexton and Novalima, and we heard from Nellie McKay in advance of her visit to the Dakota this week. We also heard from Etta James. Thank you for all the of the music, sweet voice Etta.
Thank you to David Huckfelt and Michael Rosetto of The Pines for coming in to give us a preview of the new album, “Dark So Gold.” They’ve gone from being the Iowa duo of David with Benson Ramsey to recording and writing with the band which has toured with them for more than a couple years now. This has lent a rich sound to “Dark So Gold,” while retaining the intimacy and emotion of The Pines’ previous two albums, “Tremelo” and “Sparrows in the Bell.” It was great having David and Michael in studio this morning.
