Welcome to the new year! Let’s hope it’s a good one, and a much better one for many many people. We heard new music this morning from Charles Bradley and BNLX, and Felonious Bosch’s Peterson’s Cabin infected more than a couple listeners’ Mondays, I heard the next day. It is pretty catchy…
Spiritualized started the morning for us. If you get a chance, listen to or look up the lyrics to Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space. I am convinced it’s one of the most beautiful songs of all time, capturing sadness, need, and hope.
Thanks to Jonathan and Sara from Kaivama:http://www.myspace.com/kaivama for coming by this morning to talk about Finnish music pre- and post-American immigration. They played some lovely songs live, too. Other music we heard included new Iron and Wine, smooth Roy Hargrove, and the Fela! original Broadway cast recording.
New music this morning from David Lowery, Vusi Mahlasela, and Fujiya Miyagi, to name a few. We also heard from the new Deerhoof in advance of their show at the Triple Rock February 17th. If you haven’t seen this experimental, suprising rock-electronic hybrid band live, it’s highly recommended! We also heard Bruce McCabe’s Rich Poor Man Blues, and he’ll be down at the KFAI Fundraiser this Saturday, Feb. 5th, at the St Paul Eagles Club. The Rich Poor Men will join him. The fun starts at 7pm and goes until Bruce hits the last note. I’ll see you there!
