DJ Musically Rich filled in this morning, while Pam was off in the Adirondacks listening to a folk festival and hitting up Burlington Records for their funk and disco-soul. Rich took good care of the decks, with a wide-ranging set couched in the Fat Albert theme song. We had a good time, indeed: Roseanne Cash, New Primitives, Sonny Rollins and the Ramones. All that, the Roe Family Radio Round-Up, and more. Pam should go away more often…
Thanks to Todd Melby for sharing some of the great stories and live music you can find at www.ampers.org:http://www.ampers.org. Great way to keep up with local music’s rising stars, and established talents. Also heard new music this morning from Azure Ray, Duke Robillard, Gold Motel, and a couple tracks from the new Putumayo Tribute to a Reggae Legend (Bob Marley).
Ben Weaver:http://www.benweaver.net joined us this morning to talk about the first show in the multi-disciplinary series he put together at Bryant-Lake Bowl, leading up to his CD release party for Mirepoix Smoke. The first show was about charcuterie and coffee, Thursday, September 23rd. On the 30th, Ben brings poets and writers together for Words, and the CD release show is Friday, October 8th, with The Pines. Check the playlist for Ben’s set, too – it started with a Bob Dylan bootleg.
First fall pledge drive edition featured new Breathe Owl Breathe (at the 7th Street Entry October 5th), new Mavis Staples, and something from a Tom Ze retrospective. Thanks to Ellen Stanley:http://www.kfai.org/womenfolk for joining me, and all who called to support at 612-375-9030. Keeping community radio a strong tradition in the Twin Cities!
