Catching up with new releases after the Black History Month celebration last week. Big thanks to Dee Henry Williams:http://www.kfai.org/agreatblendofwatercolors for doing a great job of starting that celebration and helping us contemplate on a Tuesday morning! Also thanks to Brenda Bell Brown, an extra-early special guest. New music this week from Shearwater, Laura Veirs, Jaga Jazzist, and one to look out for: Javelin, coming out on Luaka Bop records in April.
Two releases to check out if you like Sunny Day Real Estate or The Stone Roses or other dreamy rock music with big swells of sound: The Besnard Lakes and The Morning Benders. Both albums came out today, and we heard them back-to-back in the 6:00 hour this morning. We also heard new live Ben Harper Relentless 7, new Clogs, and local music from Dark Dark Dark.
We got through the busy morning, thanks to Lucy Kaplansky for her time, and to William Franklin, Ryan Horton and Michael Holloway from the McNally Smith College of Music for coming in so early. We also said goodbye to a big star in the world of rock-n-roll songwriting, Alex Chilton, with Box Tops, Alex himself, and the Jayhawks.
Thanks to Ellen Stanley from Womenfolk:http://www.kfai.org/womenfolk for joining me on this first pledge drive edition of PWB! We heard new Dum Dum Girls (will be huge!), Shatner from a few years back, and new local music from History Books. Check out the playlist for other sounds from here and around the world!
