Dr. Roy I. Jones,PhD, on Educating Black Boys, keynote presenter,
Tuesday, October 12, starting at 1:30 p.m., at St. Catherine University’s Diversity Council’s in-depth look at strategies that prepare African-American male students for success in academia.
The event is sponsored by Twin Cities Teacher Collaborative (TC2); Dismantling Racism Working Group of the Justice Commission of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and Consociates; and St. Catherine University’s Multicultural International Programs and Services (MIPS), Academic Community Development Committee, and the Office of Student Affairs.

Extensive research shows the achievement gap that Black students, especially Black male students, experience in high schools across the country. Despite this low academic performance, research shows that these students are as intelligent as their peers (“No Progress in Educating Black Males,” July 26, 2008). This information, though provocative and disturbing, is not new. Many administrators and teachers in higher education are aware of this perplexing reality.
