Pam Without Boundaries

Pam Without Boundaries, hosted by Pam, features an eclectic blend of singer-songwriters, rock bands, world music, and electronic beats alongside exclusive features such as:

  • 10:15am highlights of this week's new releases: you'll go to the record store in-the-know for what's coming out Tuesday!
  • 10:30am we're often joined by local, national or international musicians for music and some chat.
  • 11am weekday concert calendar, because, face it, some weeks, you need live music to get you through it. You will also find a concert calendar at this time on Tuesdays and Thursdays on KFAI!
  • 11:30am it's the Roe Family Radio Roundup: a little review of classic traditionals and new originals in a timely way by your friends, the Roe Family Singers, from the comforts of Studio 5.
  • Just before noon it's the Featured Festival: a couple of songs from an upcoming festival or benefit I want to be sure you know about.

We look forward to getting your music week started right on KFAI, Radio Without Boundaries.

Wow—two greats passed over the weekend: Tpmmy Erdelyi (Tommy Ramone) and Charlie Haden. They each had an impact on music which continues to reverberate in today’s teens picking up guitars in the garage having grown up on mom and dad’s records and today’s modern jazz performers bending new notes in adventurous compositions. I played Charlie’s son, Josh Haden, in his group Spain this morning, and you’ll note a Ramones/Replacements set started the show. We also heard new music from John Hiatt, Kelis, Curtis Harding, The Fresh & Onlys and more….

Thanks for all the calls this morning! I sent new music from The Mastersons out to Matthew who had the good fortune to show up early to Steve Earle at the zoo and catch them live. Their “Good Luck Charm” is out this week and we heard a beautiful ballad from it this morning. I also sent a set out to Brian and Joanie, longtime champions and lovers of international and new music. Their astute ears have made programming PWB all these years a joy. Check the playlist for more international, soul, and new local music! It was also the final “Roe Family Radio Round Up” on a Monday morning. You’ll hear the crew’s shenanigans at 20 minutes left of the show.

Thanks to Ellen from “Womenfolk” for joining me in the last hour of the show this morning to celebrate all the great moments we’ve had together over the years on PWB: some of the great interviews she’s helped arrange for the show, great artists she’s prompted me to share and the fun we’ve had on pledge drives. I’ll still pop up on her excellent show when she’ll let me…and we might co-host another “Crap from the Past” one of these Fridays…. We also heard new music this morning from Rebirth Brass Band, Bob Bingham and a crazy new offering from the Red Hot organization: “Red Hot + Bach”—very very cool collection of artists bringing their musical voices to Bach compositions to raise funds for AIDS/HIV prevention.

New music this morning from Trampled By Turtles (the new one, “Wild Animals,” is out July 15th), Shonen Knife (coming to town in September) and Doug Otto & Hurricane Harold (recorded in one take). Check the playlist and you’ll find Ethiopian-born artist Meklit, Petra Haden accapella-style covering The Who, Nordic music from around the millenium and more local music than you can swing a cat (thanks, Jack Klatt) at mixed in!

Travis from The Boys n’ the Barrels came in this morning to talk about bluegrass music, creating songs with friends and their big show at the Cabooze June 5th. It’s been fun to see the band grow and develop since 2009, and it’s even more fun to hear about their busy upcoming festival season and to know it means we’ll hear more from this band for a long time to come. We also heard new music this morning from local blues/satire artist Nigel Egg, local afrobeat purveyors Black Market Brass and Conor Oberst in advance of his show at First Avenue.
