Pam Without Boundaries

Pam Without Boundaries, hosted by Pam, features an eclectic blend of singer-songwriters, rock bands, world music, and electronic beats alongside exclusive features such as:

  • 10:15am highlights of this week's new releases: you'll go to the record store in-the-know for what's coming out Tuesday!
  • 10:30am it's the Roe Family Radio Roundup: a little review of classic traditionals and new originals in a timely way by your friends, the Roe Family Singers, from the comforts of Studio 5.
  • 11am we're often joined by local, national or international musicians for music and some chat.
  • 11:30am weekday concert calendar, because, face it, some weeks, you need live music to get you through it.

We look forward to getting your music week started right on KFAI, Radio Without Boundaries.

Fun morning of new music: James Cotton, Femi Kuti, Son Volt, AM & Shawn Lee covering Joe Jackson, and a new project from Sara Pajunen, whom you know as half of Kaivama. Sara got together with some other musicians—jazz and world music players including a top local accordionist—and created Tango Pohjan Tahden. She’ll be our guest on PWB Monday, May 20th, to talk about the project and new music from Kaivama. Check out finntango.com for more information!

We welcomed Taylor Robert—whom you may also know as Taylor Baggott—to the studio this morning to talk about his new album and release party at Hell’s Kitchen on Saturday, May 11th. Taylor has been on the music scene in the Twin Cities for more than 5 years, releasing his first full-length in 2009. In that time, he’s stuck to a sound he now calls “roll n’ soul,” although he went through a few incarnations at the suggestion of experienced friends to get to this point. We’ll keep in touch with Taylor Robert on PWB. We also heard new music from AM & Shawn Lee, Joshua Redman and local band Chicane Theory. Check the playlist for more!

Guided by Voices, Sawtooth Bluegrass Band, Beausoleil avec Michael Doucet, Fatoumata Diawara and The Valdons were just some of our soundtrack this morning. We went many places to bring new music to our Monday and set us up for a busy week in the clubs. RIP George Jones.

This Earth Day-ish date meant a rather obvious start to the show with Dramarama’s “What Are We Gonna Do?” but it was fun to hear that cautionary song, now a couple decades old.

A BIG kiss of joy to everyone who helped KFAI beat the pledge drive goal on Friday, April 12th! Thank you for supporting Radio Without Boundaries! Today on PWB we heard new music from Ana Popvoc, Carla Bruni, Simone Dinnerstein, and some guys, too! The Bills have a new album, “Yes Please,” on Red House Records that I am sure I will spin more from—yes, please!

The pledge drive edition of PWB brought guests Ellen Stanley of “Womenfolk” and Al B. Ware of “Songs of Praise” to the morning’s festivities, as well as a call from a Walker Church-era volunteer, Scott G. Hansen. It was fun to hear form him in honor of the pledge drive as the station looks at its 35th anniversary: Scott was one of the last people to broadcast from the church’s belfry so long ago.

We welcomed Sonny Knight into the studio this morning in the 11:00 hour to talk about his live debut with The Lakers. You’ll hear more from Sonny Knight and The Lakers in the future—he let us know some recording may be underway in not too long. We also gave tickets away to Sonny’s show and Carrie Rodriguez, and heard brand new music from The Boys n’ the Barrels…

New music this morning from Simone Dinnerstein & Tift Merrit in advance of their gig in April at the Dakota, also Bajofondo, Caitlin Rose and Low. There’s a new album from The Cave Singers I think will be getting a lot of attention from music-lovers soon…

Music from Fatoumata Diawara, the Ericksons and Martha Wainwright this morning. Also new Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell, Kelly Richey and David Bowie (not either of the big singles). From Mali to Memphis to Minneapolis and a lot that could be called “in-between.” Thanks for checking out the playlist!
