Birthdays in Blue for Five-Count' Em-Five 'Record Men'--Emile Berliner, who invented the flat disc(records as we know 'em!); Ralph Peer, pioneering AR man who discovered both Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family in the 'Big Bang' of Country Music; Henry Glover of King and Chess Records Fame; Milt Gabler, who founded Commodore Records-one of the first independent labels-and later produced Louis Jordan, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Bill Haley and many others for Decca; and Bumps Blackwell of Specialty Records. We celebrate their legacy with a number of songs about records highlighting the recent Bear Family release ONE MORE RECORD PLEASE. Other Birthdays in Blue include Unsung Motown Hero-Shorty Long, Ronnie Isley of the Isley Brothers, That 'Cheerful Little Earful' and long time favorite of KFAI's Dakota Dave Hull, Fats Waller; The King of the Clarinet-Artie Shaw; and Our Own Bob Dylan who turns 67 on Saturday. And don't forget---May is National Bicycle Month on your street and on Bopstreet with Fats Domino's 'Rockin Bicycle' and the Swallows bicycle named Tillie.
