Harry Waters Jr. and Jewelle Gomez speak about their new project “Waiting for Giovanni” a two act play in development about African-American gay writer, James Baldwin (1924-1987). “Waiting for Giovanni” is a collaboration with actor Harry Waters Jr., writer Jewelle Gomez and director Arturo Catricala.

Harry Waters Jr. is an esteemed actor in comedy, musical, and dramatic roles.
In the Twin Cities he has acted at Mixed Blood Theater, Ten Thousand Things Theater Co., Penumbera Theater Co. and the Guthrie Theater. He has directed for Thirst Theater, Pillsbury House Theater and been Assistant Director for the Guthrie Theater.He is most famous for his portrayal of Marvin Berry in Back to the Future (1985.) Film Credits also include Disney's Adventures in Wonderland, and Big Bully starring Rick Moranis.

*Jewelle Gomez*, writer, activist

Jewelle Gomez:http://www.jewellegomez.com is a writer and activist and the author of the double Lambda Award-winning novel, “The Gilda Stories” from Firebrand Books. Her adaptation of the book for the stage BONES ASH: A GILDA STORY, was performed by the Urban Bush Women company in 13 U.S. cities. Her fiction, essays, criticism and poetry have appeared in numerous periodicals.
She was on the founding board of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and an original member of the boards of the Astraea Foundation and the Open Meadows Foundation.
