Commemorating Derek Jarman, film series
Derek Jarman was an irrepressible polymath. Painter, writer, activist, gardener and filmmaker, his creative endeavors intersected with concrete subjects, whether reflecting upon class inequality, sexual freedom, or raging against the repressive politics of British government. Twenty years after his death from AIDS-related illnesses, the Walker salutes Jarman with a series of his films.
The Heidi Chronicles by Wendy Wasserstein, directed by Leigh Silverman
Written in 1988 The The Heidi Chronicles won the 1989 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play follows the self journey of Heidi Holland, played by Kate Wetherhead, through her life in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, from high school to becoming a successful art historian and mother.
Openly gay actor Zach Shaffer plays the role of Peter Patrone, a gay pediatrician and Heidi’s best friend. Zach talks about his role and what he thinks is still relevant today in Wendy Wasserstein’s play, The Heidi Chronicles.
Christine talks about her writings and reads from her new novel "Carnaval Lights", due to be published by Modern History Press in the summer of 2015. Christine was named a “Changemaker” for 2012 by the Women’s Press and her novel "Nickels: A Tale of Dissociation" was a finalist for a 2011 Lambda Literary Award. Her poetry and prose have been published in numerous periodicals and anthologies and she has won awards for her writing, including a Pushcart nomination, a McKnight grant, and a Loft Mentorship in creative non-fiction.
Christine's artwork has been shown at numerous galleries throughout the U.S. Her upcoming art exhibition is Thursday, October 23, 7:00pm - 10:00pm at Common Roots Café, 2558 Lyndale Ave S, Minneapolis
