Charlie Thayer, Jewell Arcoren, Miguel Vargas First Person Radio 4/30/2014
Please join Laura Waterman Wittstock on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 as she talks with Jewell Arcoren, Miguel Vargas and some more guests in a sparkling conversation about the coming Indian Month in Minnesota and the one big day of programming on KFAI-FM called "Turtle Island-Voices Rising" coming soon in the month of May.
Jewell Arcoren (Sisseton/Sicangu) First Nations Composer Initiative (First Nations Composer Initiative (FNCI). She has been with FNCI since 2006. Jewell brings to FNCI a passion and background in working for the non-profit Twin Cities American Indian arts sector. Jewell has worked with local twin cities non profits and organizations such as Wicoie Nandagikendan, a pre-school language immersion program, Dream of Wild Health, Two Rivers Gallery, the Shakopee Mdewankanton Sioux Community and Dakota owned media company Allies media art.
Miguel Vargas is Program Director at KFAI, Fresh Air Radio.
Born in raised in Saint Paul, MN, has been involved at the University of Minnesota (1999-2012) earning his undergraduate degree in Studies in Cinema and Media Culture ('05), and working as administrative staff for the Departments of Chicano Studies and American Indian Studies.
While serving as Community Outreach Coordinator for Dept. of AMIN Studies (2007-2012), Miguel has begun DJing around the Twin Cities, while landing a music program on KFAI, "Radio Pocho", in July 2010, co-founded with Steven Renderos (DJ Ren). He also began assisting with the production of "First Person Radio" hosted by Laura Waterman Wittstock in November 2011.
