Dogwood written by Seraphina Nova and directed Justin M. Kirkeberg

In Dogwood, we meet three adult children still nursing the scars of childhood, and their aging parents who seem to not be aware of the damaged adults their children have grown into. As the story unfolds, demons surface, and tempers are lost, and we slowly come to realize that many of the secrets that members of the family were keeping, were in fact not secrets at all.

Call Me Kuchu: Film & Conversation, Wed. April 30 - 7:30 pm - Sundin Music Hall, Hamline University st Paul

This screening is free and open to the public.

This screening is sponsored by Stonewall Alliance of the Hamline University School of Law and the Uganda Project of Wingspan Ministry (St. Paul-Reformation Lutheran Church).

Call Me Kuchu is an award-winning 2012 documentary that profiles several Ugandan LBGTI activists, including David Kato, whose murder in 2011 received international attention. John “Long Jones” Wambere is another activist profiled in the film, and he will be at this screening to participate in a Q & A afterwards. The Anti-Homosexuality Act recently signed into law punishes homosexuality with up to life imprisonment and makes any efforts to support the LGBTI community illegal and punishable by up to seven years in prison. Worse, the law, and its accompanying public fervor, has roots in American fundamentalist Christianity. Call Me Kuchu puts faces and lives, courage and dignity at the heart of the unfolding crisis in Uganda.
